Course Description

Iris Compiet has lived and breathed the fantastical world of faeries since she was 7 years old. As the creator of her own faery-dom, Faeries of the Faultlines, Iris has established an entire philosophy about building a coherent world of all things faery. In this series, Iris shares her thought process as she paints the various denizens of the Faultlines, such as:

  • faeries
  • trolls
  • witches
  • mermaids
  • other supporting characters

These aren't assignments; they're just good prompts and exercises to help you have a productive drawing day.

MEET YOUR INSTRUCTOR

Iris Compiet

Illustrator Iris Compiet is an artist and Illustrator living and working in the Netherlands. She enjoys working on projects ranging book illustration to gallery art and has worked for various renowned international clients. Creating a 'sense of wonder' is at the core of her work. Both in commissioned work as in non-commissioned work, in two- or three-dimensional work, storytelling is an essential part. As an artist, she strives to lure in the spectator, to make them feel a connection to the work and open a gateway to their imagination to ignite it even further. Drawing inspiration from European folklore, mythology, fairytales, ghost stories and anything from tombstones, Victorian photography to popular movies and music. She's the creator of Faeries of the Faultlines. A book that offers a gateway to the world of Faerie about which Brian Froud has this to say: "As someone who has attempted to paint faeries and otherworldly beings for fifty years, I know how difficult it is to be true to the subject matter.
