Lesson Plan

Let’s get started with the basics of Procreate Dreams as we familiarize ourselves with the interface, uncover hidden menus, and explore smart ways to work. We will also create a short animation with a cute sleeping character, and I will teach you different ways to animate it with simple yet powerful tools.

In this lesson, I will go in depth on how to animate frame by frame in Procreate Dreams. We will get familiar with tracks to divide up your animation, onion skins, transform, frames per second and much more. We will start with an animation sketch and go through all the steps until we have a full animated bouncing character in color with grading and shadow.

In this lesson, I will show you how to use keyframes to animate a character. You will get familiar with the different types of keyframes and easing. We are then going to set up a simple animation rig and animate lip sync to make our character say whatever we want and speak with personality!

Learn how to animate a walk cycle by combining keyframing and frame by frame animation. I will show you how to combine the strengths of both techniques: the time-saving benefits of keyframing where you can have lots of details on your characters, and the freedom of frame by frame that allows you to draw any shape on any frame.

Parallax camera moves are very powerful and will give depth to your scenes. They can also be used to enhance storytelling, making your animation scenes more dynamic. In this lesson, I will teach you different ways to create a parallax effect to your scene, just as if we were animating the camera.

We will transform a 2D environment into one that behaves and looks totally 3D to get the best of both worlds. The wonderful painterly look is something we can only do in 2D, but for the cool camera moves that make your scene look like it’s 3D, we will use distort, scale and transform in smart ways to create this cool scene.

In this lesson, I will teach you how you can make a still painting of an underwater scene really come to life. We will use filters in interesting ways to create the light-play you would find under water - like caustics and god rays. We will also animate bubbles and seagrass to make the scene really look like it’s underwater. I’ll also show how you can add your own character with a fun animation and how to perform it in your scene.

Weather effects like rain and snow are so powerful and will help give your scene the mood you want. In this lesson, I will create an environment and teach you how to add the illusion of moving water, like a steam or a river, and we will make trees move like the wind is blowing in the leaves. Then, I will show you how to create rain and snow in your scenes using simple tricks and techniques.

In our final lesson I will teach you all the cool secrets and tricks that I haven't already shown you. We will make a destroyed environment come to life with fire, smoke, dust, sparks, flickering screens, focus, camera moves, and more to give the scene a truly dramatic feeling!
